Peter and Josi's Newsletter - September 2018

Peter and Josi’s Newsletter - September 2018

Dear Friends,     Greetings once again in Jesus wonderful Name! Thank you to all, for your
prayers, support and messages!

Since our last news regarding visiting the UK. we are still in need of prayer but we trust the
Lord will make a way!  A friend kindly found a discounted flight for ‎£1,510 GBP for all three
of us to travel 13th December - Return Brazil 4 February 2019. But the flight can only be
held reserved for 2 days.  ‎£500 UK pounds has been raised so far….but we would need to
raise the remaining cost to to book the flight. I am sending this message out quickly should
anyone wish to help. Thank you to all who have prayed and for your help so far! God bless
you!
“The Workshop of Education” 28 - 30th July 2018
Certainly organizing the Workshop of Education has been a roller-coaster - Thank you to all
who enabled us through prayer and finance for us to be at the Workshop!  As Josi was
organizing...you can imagine how busy we were and still are busy mobilizing Christian
educators in Brazil. Important news, Praise the Lord! - We now have the UofN College
of Education Curriculum - “Educating for Life” program translated into Portuguese! After
searching on google, I discovered an online translator https://www.onlinedoctranslator.com/
I translated over two nights what must be over 800 pages!….(If anyone needs help translating
large documents let me know and I can explain). The Portuguese translation still needs
revision and correction to be ready for publishing..but Josi said it was good.
Please pray - Josi is helping to bring together volunteers to help with revision and correction.
With a Biblical Worldview it is envisaged the Curriculum will help a great many Christian
educators Brazil. Training for this is being planned. The Workshop last July at YWAM
Contagem went amazingly well, it certainly wasn't without a certain amount of trepidation
before we started...but a lot of prayers were answered and the key speaker Ruth Golden
being exactly the right person to facilitate and help participants come together. We look
forward to all the Lord will do in the future and for the training for the Educating for Life
curriculum…….We will share more in following newsletters all being well!

The Gospel Target for Soldiers and Volunteers
The search for old forgotten posters continues and I get to be picture Detective! Thank
you for your prayers! Recently I was on the lookout for another picture by W. C. Miles....
called the Gospel Target for Soldiers and Volunteers. Eventually with the help of the
Museum of Army Chaplaincy at Amport House, Andover UK. I was able to obtain photos
of an original copy they have at the Museum.  The Curator - Mr David Blake has been
most helpful and a great help with research about the mysterious W. C. Miles. There
is very little information readily available, but gradually the information has been coming
together and it is fascinating! Shortly I should have have something more to share with
this intriguing subject. The Gospel Target is an extremely well designed and conceived
picture. Full of Bible verses and scenes which illustrate various themes in the life of a soldier.
It just so happened it was Soldiers day in Brazil - 25th of August - What an opportunity for
the picture! But I had a lot of work to make the picture ready and translated into Portuguese!
- But we were able the following week to have a 2 metre high banner printed…The junior
school has been looking at the picture as part of it's devotionals and reflecting on Bible
verses and themes in the poster. ... it must be over 135 ago since the original picture was
made. It was originally created to help British soldiers but it can be for soldiers of all nations.

September the 7th marked Brazilian Independence day so we continued studying the picture
in our school devotionals. When we asked the children if they each wanted to have a poster -
virtually all  their hands went up! So we prayed in agreement to the Lord to provide the
means to make posters available for each child. We also pray we might be able to provide
the poster free of charge to children in other schools, we would like to visit with the Gospel
Target poster and also military personnel here. Please pray in agreement with us!

Dorothy, Daddy and the Gospel Target. With us in the photo - regular Soldiers and Military Police who had been marching for the Brazil Independence Day parade 7th September,  Fortaleza.

Project Criancas do Rei
Criancas do Rei continues despite the challenges here. Please pray - The children and
families we are helping are extremely needy.

“Sabado Legal” - Saturday Childrens church

Recently we had the best attendance for a Saturday morning - 84 children…..we also had
more volunteers thankfully.  Please pray - with the new children we need to provide snacks.

Prayer and Praise
Answers to prayer - we were able to purchase a new Fridge and Microwave - Praise the
Lord! Please continue to pray for Crianças do Rei - also for volunteers. (Answer to prayer -
A Christian lady from France stayed with us for some weeks during August which was a
great encouragement - also a big help with translating the Gospel Target and some pages
in French for my website featuring the Broad and the Narrow Way picture -
Thank you Lucie! The English page on the website regularly has at least 2 - 6 visitors a day
from all over the world - and that's just one page! Although I don't know how many visitors I
am getting for the rest of the website (I need to set up counters)….but I do know it is being
visited and need to keep the site up to date.

Please continue to pray for safety and security - Brazil continues to face many challenging
times.   Recently the Museum of Brazil which has the biggest collection for all of Brazil's
history - Went up in flames. Also shortly afterwards one of the leading contenders to
become president Bolsonaro was stabbed in public while campaigning. He is recovering
in Hospital. While ex president Lula who served two terms in office is in prison - there
was talk of him  being released to run for president but it seems unlikely now.

Please continue to pray  - We give thanks to the Lord for the wonderful way our laptop is
still functioning well after two years!  Our printer (which we keep very busy but is having
problems printing black.) We still have a need for a new washing machine… Also
maintenance for the school structure. Recently high winds which thankfully have died
down a bit - probably a cousin of Hurricane Florence has been battering us. The
strongest winds I have known here.  All we can do is commit our ways unto the Lord
- He sees everything… including my emergency repairs holding the roof down!

With love and best wishes
Peter, Josi and Dorothy

Peter and Josi's Newsletter - August 2018 - UK Visit

Celebrating Dorothy’s 10th Birthday

Peter and Josi’s Newsletter - August 2018
Dears Friends,

May this newsletter find you indeed blessed, in good health and encouraged in the Lord Jesus Christ!
Thank you to all for your prayers, support and messages.

Once again we have a lot of news which challenges me to know how to fit everything in!. But  I will write a short one here below focussing on a particular need and write second longer one later.

UK Visit

I need to share I am planning to return to the UK shortly for a brief visit …There is a need to dispose of my belongings in the UK which has been in storage since 2007…Very kind friends helped me way back in 2007 with the storage, but the time has come to dispose of my belongings. When my mother passed away in 2007 it was a bit difficult at the time to know what to do as I used to keep my belongings, pictures, cards, puppets etc  at Mums home....and of course it was quite difficult at the time.....but at least now I can make up my mind easier after being in Brazil for a few years.  I never returned to the UK since 2007 so never really had the opportunity to sort things out….I have a large quantity of Cards also displays etc, pictures, puppets, etc - If anyone would be interested please let me know…of course they have value, but I am not really in a position to exhibit like I once did in the UK. So I need now to let them go to a good home or ministry which could benefit. Please pray the Lord will open doors and give wisdom about this. I believe the Lord has used the artwork and I know the cards have been a particular blessing to many but it is extremely difficult to be able to sustain what I once did in the UK.   Life certainly took a 360 degree turn from what I once knew exhibiting at UK Christian conferences.

Please pray - We need to raise finance to visit the UK. It would be nice if we could all go together as a family as Dorothy has never visited the UK…but it would cost about £3,000 UK pounds. If I go alone then it will be about £1,000 - but either way I need to arrive in the UK promptly to resolve the storage situation.  We will be trying to visit in September or October. I will share more news in a second newsletter

With love and best wishes
Peter, Josi and Dorothy

Peter and Josi’s Newsletter - June 2018 - Part 2

Peter and Josi’s Newsletter - June 2018 - Part 2

Dears Friends,

Greetings once again in Jesus Wonderful Name!  Thankyou to all for your continued support
and prayers.  This is Part 2 of our June Newsletter and we hope the 1st part was a great
encouragement and blessing to all!
The picture above is a remembrance of the word Tom Bloomer gave at the JOCUM in Family
Reunion we attended last December about Education.  Since then Christian Teachers and
Educators have been mobilising. When we heard Tom Bloomer at the reunion we realised
how important the word was…..and we need to act upon this!…. Josi called a meeting of
teachers and educators at the reunion https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9DqP7zs50_Y
The short video recorded moments of this meeting and Josi sharing. Please watch….it has
English subtitles which can be switched on and a transcript below the video.

Since last December YWAM Christian Teachers and Educators in Brazil now have a
whatsapp group to support, prayer and help each other And Josi has been responsible
for organizing a YWAM Workshop for Education a Christian Biblical Worldview.  I
will let Josi share in her own words (Translated) - “I felt very challenged and inspired by the
words of Tom Bloomer, so as soon as he finished speaking I knew exactly what I should do,
because I felt God speaking very clearly to me to meet with other YWAM educators at the
Family Reunion and organize a meeting.  I called everyone and we had our meeting and
we all had the same feeling that we needed to unite more in working together with our
schools and to seek God together to understand His heart about education at this time in
the discipleship of nations.
So the next step, I felt we should have a group on Whatsapp to pray for and know what
we should do to strengthen us, this group has been wonderful and now has 66 educators
and Teachers.  We want to inspire each other and speak of our schools, our challenges,
victories and praying for each other.
Also create a prayer list as there were requests on many subjects and always new ones
to pray for. All this happens in the whatsapp group. We have inspired others who also
want to start a school for children at their bases. With all the excitement about the
Education Workshop, I knew we need someone from the Education Faculty (YWAM
University of the Nations) with our group, so it we are very happy to have Ruth Golden
confirmed to be with us at the Workshop. So we're counting the days for our Education
Workshop in July. I believe it will be a watershed, because for many years we have
walked without much connection with each other, but I think God has something very
special for us here in Brazil. We have 9 schools in Brazil from Jocum, with Infant and
primary education, with about 1,000 pupils, and about 80 teachers every day in our
schools and classrooms. God has called my attention to share this in the group,
speaking that education is a very fertile field.  God has delivered into our hands,
a generation of teachers, educators, children, adolescents and families to disciple
through education, so we want to do this. Josi.
“The Workshop of Education” which will be 28 - 30th July 2018 and will be held
at JOCUM Contagem. We need to be at this very important Workshop and we still
need to purchase flight tickets, transport also warm clothes. At this time of year the
South of Brazil is quite cold compared to the North East of Brazil where we live.
With flight tickets, transport etc we need to raise over R$3000 reais ( £600 UK pounds)
We would be grateful for your prayers and help.

The Up and Down Lines Picture
In our April Newsletter I mentioned if anyone has any old Christian posters and prints they
would kindly like to donate. I also mentioned a picture which would be most welcome called
the  “The Up and the Down Lines” issued in the 1880s. Well, it seems miraculous to me,
a few weeks later I spotted one for sale on Ebay and was able to secure it with a bid of £7.95!
The seller told me he had never seen one for sale before on Ebay. and he has
been selling on Ebay since 1999!
The photo is of Dorothy with the old print well over 130 years old. Of course Dorothy
was intrigued by this and enjoyed hearing me explain the small pictures with Bible
verses and scriptures in the picture and what they meant. An historic picture from
the age of Steam in Victorian Britain. How the world has changed since then!
…..A poster which was used widely to make the Gospel known in a way many
who travelled the railway would understand. I am rejoicing and praising the Lord
very much I was able to find this rare historic picture which has been all but
forgotten. Sometimes it was hung in homes as a companion picture to the Broad
and Narrow Way. Even though the copy I had was quite battered and torn, the
colour was very good and I was able to digitally restore it and is now re-published
and available as posters, prints and much more! Please visit our online store.

Gentlemen - The Chiffon Top would make a very nice gift for wives, daughters or girlfriends - As a bonus take them for a trip on a Steam Railway ride too!. For Railway Buffs - this is to good to miss!    For more information about this fascinating picture - http://pictureswithamessage.com/blog.htm

Prayer

We give thanks to God for all the many answers to prayer and the friends and partners in
mission He gives us.

Please pray for the Education Workshop in July - only a few weeks away. We trust the Lord
to provide for us to go and all the things we need to organise. We believe it will be a very
important time for YWAM Brazil Education for the next steps.

Please continue to pray for Crianças do Rei and for suitable space - and for volunteers.
The families that are being served are very needy.

Please pray  for a new laptop computer, and washing machine, fridges, microwave etc...
There is a mounting list of things broken and need replacing -  chairs, tables too many things
to write. With all the things we need to accomplish, fix and  replace - finance is often like a
rubber band - and we see how far it stretches, what needs to be done first. But we do our
best and so we give thanks to God for all who help and pray.

Please continue to pray for safety and security - Brazil continues to face many challenging times.

Please continue to pray, It would be nice to visit the UK again - I have not visited since 2007.
Perhaps time to visit and meet up with family and friends again.

******************************
World Cup Extra -  The TV broke along time ago.……but it makes it even more special when
I visit the local corner shop, walk in and see England on the flat screen playing and the
scoreline at 6 x 1!  I must be dreaming! Kkkkk Hope I don't walk in when they are being
massacred!

*******************************
With love and best wishes

Peter and Josi's Newsletter - Part 1 - June 2018

Peter and Josi’s Newsletter - June 2018 - Part 1

Dears Friends,

Greetings once again in Jesus Wonderful Name!   The photo above shows part of the infants
class in a recent reading workshop - Theme: Cultivating friendships. Book “The Little Prince”

I will be sending out 2 newsletters this month - all being well!   This is the first part…..

Thank you for all your prayers and support. The school Escola Crista Água Viva continues to
be a blessing to children and their families, we have a good team of teachers……and Praise
the Lord the school earns enough to cover wages, although there is nothing left over and of
course we need to do maintenance and buy replacement equipment. Some parents continue
to struggle paying school fees - the total is over 4,000 reais (about 800 UK pounds)  Please
pray for wisdom and help …….as weak and seemingly overwhelmed as we are - The Lord
tells me there is strength through weakness - His power is made perfect through weakness.
So we persevere….knowing God can make flowers grow in the hardest place.
Crianças do Rei Project
The children experience every day the best we can offer spiritually in their school routine.
We currently have children 1 year to 12 years, this group are children living at social risk,
the time they stay are precious moments, where they receive attention, protection, care and
much affection. All have a history very similar, living in extreme poverty, suffering from social
inequality and with all the problems associated with this. We present to them the love of God
for their lives, through what we do, teaching, feeding, and caring, for we want them to
understand that there is hope and a future for their lives, Jesus Christ. It is our day to day
work with them and we can already see in their lives gratitude to God even though they live
in difficult situations. But God's love in action has reached their lives.  Josi

Art Competition
This year I have been thinking and praying about developing an Art Competition to teach the Bible and
disciple those who participate.  More details can be found at website

We think it will be a good way to disciple this generation, an encouragement for participants to learn about
the Bible by producing a picture for the Broad and Narrow Way Art Competition.
Entrants will have  a chance to examine the message and theme of the famous Broad and Narrow Way
picture by Mrs Charlotte Reihlen - and then produce a picture  - To capture the message of the Broad and
Narrow Way and faithfully portray it for today's generation. The competition we hope and pray will help
churches to reach out to their communities effectively. A pamphlet to familiarise each entrant for the
competition will be an opportunity for churches to provide teaching to further help entrants.
There is a great need to disciple young people of all nations not only in Brazil, teaching Christian values
and the Bible in a relevant way. We need to raise at least 10,000 UK pounds to run the competition -
Yes, 10,000 UK pounds, but this is the  same cost more or less for secular art competitions.

The plan will be to run this alongside participating churches who see this as part of their outreach into
their community. It means anyone wanting to enter will have to register through their local participating
church.  A pack containing a guide, flyers and material to help churches will be produced as part of a
package to help publicise and run the competition. Each church must have at least one volunteer to run
the competition for their church.

Please contact me should you be interested   Serious cash prizes are involved - Remember this is an
incentive for artists in your community to enter. It will also be a means of extending grace to those who
are seemingly alienated from church who might never darken a church door except for funerals and
weddings, perhaps just perhaps…..this would break the ice

If enough participating churches contribute a small amount, (For example 250 uk pounds x 40 churches
= 10,000)   it won't be long before we reach our targets.

Please pray, we are at the planning stage and we need others to come alongside us for this to work.

We think there would be a lot of interest….and an opportunity for churches to reach out to their
communities in a new way.

Gawin Kirkham’s visit to the studio of Henry Bevis - From the book -
“The Story of a Picture - The Broad and Narrow Way”
“The last—the one I now use—was painted by Henry Bevis, scene painter, 140, Pentonville
Hill, London, and is nine feet wide and twelve feet long.  It is painted in dulled oils,
suspended on an ingenious frame, and lighted by a "new quintuple dual illuminator "—
five duplex lamps in one - (both invented by Mr. Leonard Todd) placed at its foot. From
these copies I have lectured in public 909 times in eighteen years to tens of thousands
of people.”  "History and Explanation of the picture "The Broad and The Narrow Way" By

An encouraging message

“My name is Shelby Lauderdale and I'm writing from my hometown of Salem, Oregon [about a 16
hour drive north of Disneyland in California, if that helps 😀]...I just wanted to tell you what your
artwork has meant to me...When I somehow felt God telling me to do a trng with YWAM in
Melbourne, Australia,  I didn't even know Holy Spirit was real... and I had never left the West
Coast of the USA. When He revealed Himself to me during a corporate prayer time, it was quite
a shock 😉, but it also has led to the hardest and most beautiful path toward finding the real God...
That was January 1997, when I was 24 (soon to be 25).
Fast forward literally 20+ YEARS, and I uncovered the three note cards (copies) of your work that
I can't remember how, but I was able to purchase them-- probably just a couple dollars-- while on
the YWAM base in Oz.
I of course had never seen prophetic art before-- nor even had that language to speak that phrase--
and your three images captured my spirit and soul. I remember actually stopping in my tracks,
recognizing Jesus Himself holding the world/globe and the harvest-thresher thing [can't remember
it's name! Ha ha Sickle??]  Anyway--- I literally remember FEELING Holy Spirit for one of the first
times ever when I saw your paintings replicated on these little note cards.
Many, many times-- and through many, many moves-- I've tried to find those postcards of yours,
or tried to find pictures of your work on a website...
They really do mean so much to me... an evidence of Heaven at work in us for the world.
And I came across them recently!! And I'M SO HAPPY!! And they are still just as poignant, just
as important to me as they were 20+ years ago. That the journey is worth taking ♡.
Anyway~ I guess after all these years, today was the day to say THANK YOU for doing what you
do -- for blessing the world with God's love.
How cool that somehow while in Australia, I got your art from England, and now have it back
ome in the USA. 😍 God is super fun like that.God bless you today, Peter~ whether you're
painting scripture prophetically or not, you're a blessing.”
"Shelby R. Lauderdale of Salem, Oregon - USA"

I received this some weeks ago from Shelby - and I thought isn't that amazing! And a great
encouragement!  Most of the time I don't really know what effect my artwork has so this was very
special. Thank you for sharing Shelby!  May God Bless you!

With love and best wishes  - Second newsletter will be arriving soon all being well!
