Dears Friends,   Christmas Greetings!  Thought I better send out our December newsletter
quickly… just a few more days and we will be getting a flight to the UK!   Thank you to all for
your prayers and for those who invited us during the time we will be visiting the UK - We will
be traveling God willing 13th December - And return Brazil 4 February 2019. Praise the Lord
we were able to renew Josi and Dorothy’s passports!


By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance,
obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going.  Hebrews 11:8


Living by faith really is an adventure especially when you don't know where you're going! -
Please pray as yet we don't have anywhere to stay once we arrive in the UK….and hotels
and even hostels are too expensive for us…..and we are just days away from arriving….
lets see how the Lord leads.   


Regarding our stay in the UK from December 13th till the 4th of February - Our agenda is
still open for anyone who would like us to visit their church, ministry  or have street outreach
with pictures.
End of Term - Escola Cristã Água Viva and Crianças do Rei



Just look at this!  - The swimming pool we asked prayer for is now completed - Praise the
Lord! Just in time for the end of term school party…….It was in January 2017 I took up the
challenge to build a swimming pool. For a recap I will share some of what I wrote way back
in February 2017- (“I believe the Lord spoke to me about our challenges “Make the best
of what you have” - I kind of made a mental note...but didn't do anything more. Then a
friend of Josi rang and asked Josi about renting our property for the Carnival period -  
Which got me thinking ………..So right after new year, my backyard which has stood idle
for too long has been having a makeover! I got started on building a swimming pool 8 x 4
metres and make space for Churches and youth groups to rent. )
The photo below shows a photo timeline starting top left corner moving clockwise - I started
off January 2017 digging and concreting and using scrap iron I had left over but after awhile
I had to stop for quite a few months….then the season for heavy rain and that presented a
few challenges….and for a long time work was slow on the pool  I never knew when it would
be completed….but we keep praying and many of you have prayed...also children at school
The swimming pool for a long time looked like a big hole and everything around it looked like a
building site. But earlier this year out of the blue a visitor stayed with us for a few days…and
it just so happened he also had built a swimming pool and knew the challenges….Some
months later he kindly made a donation sufficient to complete the construction of the swimming
pool!  So for the past few months we have been very busy. We give thanks to the Lord for
the amazing way this has all happened…...an amazing encouragement - Praise the Lord!
The children have had a wonderful end of term school party with time in the new pool...one
of the children said they had never been in a swimming pool before!

Jesus - The present for all! The King always adored!
While the school ended on a high note….although each year it always seems to be a “Via Dolorosa”,
this year the school is carrying 8,000 reais of unpaid school fees parents did not pay yet and of
course some parents have struggles with unemployment etc . This is very tough….and of course
we have to pay teachers wages.  The pressure upon us at the same time we are building a
swimming pool, and building a house for Marli (As mentioned in the last newsletter) and you can imagine...
Don't let anyone kid you, this is not a picnic…...
Why do we run a Christian school in a poor area like Iparana?  Well, isn't that just what Jesus tells
us to do? - Preach the Gospel to the poor! Once when sharing our challenges - a church leader
told us it is better to start a school in a rich neighborhood...but we went away thinking this doesn't
exactly fit with the command Jesus tells us to obey. We have to understand that to walk in faith and
obedience we simply have to believe and trust God to supply no matter what.  And that dear ones
takes faith and it also certainly crucifies our flesh life when you have few resources……..it was only
last year I was walking the roads of Caucaia….with not enough to pay a bus fare…...I was miles
away and had gone to the bank, but there was nothing in the account. Realizing the situation was
difficult I then planned to walk….but when I came to a dangerous area I had to walk through...I was
praying about what to do….not far away I saw a small Baptist Church...and I went over and asked
for help. Thankfully they helped me get back home. Praise the Lord!



The vehicle above …..I have not been able to run for a few years...too costly. And now I am
selling it.  We have no vehicle…..but that’s fine we use UBA taxi. We must accept God’s will
cheerfully no matter what...He is the Lord of our lives whom we serve…..while some think the
Gospel is all about prosperity and getting from God …...The Gospel is about giving…..giving all
you have - to the one you love And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for
themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again” 2 Corinthians 5:15   and  Love
the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind”
Matthew 22:37.   God will have a Holy people….and He will refine us, and keep refining in the
furnace until Jesus can be seen in us..Until Jesus can rule and reign in us, through our lives.   
If we are going to turn the kingdoms of this world upside down here on the earth for Jesus - we
better get the right theology! Because the purpose of God for us in this generation is for us to
do just that - Below is a prayer I believe the Holy Spirit gave me -  and maybe this can be your
prayer too….. God's purposes are too precious to miss -
“O God, fulfill all the purposes you have planned for my life, planned even before the
foundations of the earth...in Jesus Name. Amen! .  
Yes, it’s that simple!.... then one day I was thinking about this ...and felt the Lord say - How
much do you want it? Good question!...how much do I want the purposes of God in my life? If we are to turn over the kingdoms of this world and to rule and to reign in Christ? What does it take?                                                                                          
Investing in lives
Last night Josi was watching a video - then listening to the music memories came flooding back
Music I hadn't heard for a long time -  Love’s Theme by Barry White. Yes, it is secular music but
listening to the music you realize just how talented Barry White was…..and we also need to
remember music is a God given talent....how much Barry knew or acknowledged this  I don't know
….but as a child Barry would listen to his mother's classical music collection and somehow learned
to play them on the piano. Some years afterwards Barry’s younger brother was murdered in a gang
fight, and Barry also had problems….he was jailed for 4 months for stealing tyres. Barry White’s life
it would seem was destined for crime….then something happened during his time in jail he
happened to be listening to Elvis Presley singing “It’s now or never” over the radio….And somehow
the music inspired Barry White to decide to change his life….and he went on to become a
phenomenal success. But the classical music collection and piano helped prepare and develop
him as a child.  Then I wonder about all the children here in Brazil….I wonder how many Barry
White’s are out there? Both Parents and Teachers are called to be miners for gold...the talent
and God given gifts hidden in children, but how well do we invest in their lives? When I think
how things are here…I think of my own childhood and how blessed I was to be able to develop as an artist. We hope and pray our school and project can thrive and be the place God wants it to be, helping children find the gifts He has given and use them for His glory. When I think of the Via Dolorosa the school has been on all these years with unpaid school fees...I just want to listen to the music of Barry White and ponder on Love’s theme while floating in the swimming pool!. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uPHmsEoLsL0   
Prayer
Please keep praying for the  Art Gallery and Art competition …….As we know - God answers
prayer and in amazing ways!  


Please pray for our journey  to the UK - please pray we will be able to have all the necessary
things in order and ensure the property and base here will be easy to take care of for those
taking care of it. We have yet to see how challenging the cost of living will be in the UK...
I wonder how much Fish and Chips with mushy peas will be? Yes, and we need lots of warm
clothes!
Maintenance for the school structure...emergency roof repairs -  Yes the rope is still there
helping to keep the roof in place - Praise the Lord!

Dears Friends,     Greetings once again in Jesus wonderful Name! We hope our newsletter
finds you well and blessed in the Lord…..who is able to do immeasurably more than
all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us,
Ephesians 3:20 .             
  UK Visit
Thank you to all, for your prayers, support and messages! I fully intended to write sooner with
our news, but time flies - We praise the Lord since our last communication...our flight tickets to
the UK are now purchased. Thankyou to all who helped!  We will be traveling God willing 13th
December - And return Brazil 4 February 2019. - We still need to find accommodation while
in Shropshire while I dispose of my belongings in the UK which have been in storage since
2007…Regarding our stay in the UK from December 13th till the 4th of February - Our agenda
is open for anyone who would like us to visit their church, ministry  or have street outreach
with pictures. I also thought about Hyde Park and Speakers Corner and do some painting...
quite an experience as there were no shortage of hecklers the last time I was there in the 90s!
But we shall see….we don't know what the weather will be like! Here in north east of Brazil,
he weather is extremely hot now...so we will have quite a contrast when we arrive in the UK…
.Please pray we still need to raise finance for renewing passports for Josi and Dorothy and we
don't have much in the way of warm clothing. As regards transport within the UK - after being
away over 11 years away this will be interesting! .
                               
Further thoughts - YWAM - Educating for Life Curriculum
Last June we were contacted  by Lisa Orvis of the YWAM University of the Nations, College
of Education and it started the ball rolling for many things, including the new Education
curriculum which the College of Education UofN had developed. "Educating for Life".  Josi
was already getting ready for the Workshop in July and was on a 21 day Daniel fast for the
Workshop. Breakthrough started occurring at the end of Josi's fast....The curriculum Lisa
kindly sent us I was trying to fathom out how to translate what is over 800 pages without
having to process page for page -  a very big undertaking! But after searching online I found
a software which could translate in short order.. a couple of nights.....as each module was
being translated and downloaded I was realizing a dream come true, prayers which had
been prayed over years were being answered ...and then it was completed - I can only
say that it must be the Lord for this kind of thing to happen.  It was a draft translation and
needs revision but Josi said it was good - she could understand it. To us it can only seem
like a miracle, an answer to prayer - Josi and her colleagues in Brazil have waited so many
years - a Christian Education Curriculum in Portuguese - And now she is holding one in her
hands! We still have a little more work to do...we are at the next stage which is revision and
correction. Please pray for all those involved with correction and revision -  Training is being
prepared for next year to help educators use the curriculum.


Mercy is not getting what we deserve. Grace is getting what we don't deserve.

More on the Poster - The Gospel Target for Soldiers and Volunteers
Working on the picture I have often pondered the meanings it contains ...one such is a small
vignette (scene). - A general in uniform with a scripture underneath - Christ Jesus came into
the world to save sinners, of whom I am the chief. 1 Timothy 1:15
The Apostle Paul knew he was the chief of sinners, but certainly we are all chiefs when
we think of our own sin….do we accept this or want  to blame someone or something else?
circumstances or look for a scapegoat? Looking at the poster - Certainly given the military
disasters of the time and politics… there must have been more than a few British generals
and leaders who pondered quietly on their own careers.  The date the poster was created
looks to be somewhere between 1878 and before 1885. Certainly the evangelical movement
at the time took very seriously the spiritual welfare of soldiers. as testified by the incredible
efforts and lengths some missions went to in distributing New Testaments and Biblical
literature like the Gospel Target poster distributed in thousands to the troops sent to various
corners of the globe…I will hopefully expand more on this in future newsletters and write
about the author of the poster W.C.M.

Answers to Prayer
We have had some other significant answers to prayer since our last news and of course
the visit the UK is one of those. We do value your prayers and we can see the Lord is
answering them in many remarkable ways  - I shall share more in our next newsletter.
Please keep praying!


As we prepare for our visit to the UK please pray we will be able to have all the necessary
things in order and ensure the property and base here will be easy to take care of for those
taking care of it.
We continue to give thanks to the Lord for the wonderful way our laptop is still functioning -
I managed to eliminate a virus or malware the other day which was slowing it down….
It makes a big difference!

The  printer finally stopped, but we give thanks to the Lord for the finance to purchase a
new one!. Where would we be without these valuable tools!.


But we still have a need for a new washing machine…we have alot of needs and so have to
prioritize and things like this do get postponed.

Maintenance for the school structure...update on emergency roof repairs -  I am grateful
to the Lord for the old blue rope - which helps keep our roof in place!...old technology,
that might just make you think of the hymn “Will your anchor hold in the storms of life”
But yes - I know I have to figure out the roof situation and make a more permanent fix,
but for the moment we give thanks to the Lord!

Dear Friends,     Greetings once again in Jesus wonderful Name! Thank you to all, for your
prayers, support and messages!

Since our last news regarding visiting the UK. we are still in need of prayer but we trust the
Lord will make a way!  A friend kindly found a discounted flight for ‎£1,510 GBP for all three
of us to travel 13th December - Return Brazil 4 February 2019. But the flight can only be
held reserved for 2 days.  ‎£500 UK pounds has been raised so far….but we would need to
raise the remaining cost to to book the flight. I am sending this message out quickly should
anyone wish to help. Thank you to all who have prayed and for your help so far! God bless
you!
The Workshop of Education28 - 30th July 2018
Certainly organizing the Workshop of Education has been a roller-coaster - Thank you to all
who enabled us through prayer and finance for us to be at the Workshop!  As Josi was
organizing...you can imagine how busy we were and still are busy mobilizing Christian
educators in Brazil. Important news, Praise the Lord! - We now have the UofN College
of Education Curriculum - “Educating for Life” program translated into Portuguese! After
searching on google, I discovered an online translator https://www.onlinedoctranslator.com/  
I translated over two nights what must be over 800 pages!….(If anyone needs help translating
large documents let me know and I can explain). The Portuguese translation still needs
revision and correction to be ready for publishing..but Josi said it was good.  
Please pray - Josi is helping to bring together volunteers to help with revision and correction.
With a Biblical Worldview it is envisaged the Curriculum will help a great many Christian
educators Brazil. Training for this is being planned. The Workshop last July at YWAM
Contagem went amazingly well, it certainly wasn't without a certain amount of trepidation
before we started...but a lot of prayers were answered and the key speaker Ruth Golden
being exactly the right person to facilitate and help participants come together. We look
forward to all the Lord will do in the future and for the training for the Educating for Life
curriculum…….We will share more in following newsletters all being well!

The Gospel Target for Soldiers and Volunteers
The search for old forgotten posters continues and I get to be picture Detective! Thank
you for your prayers! Recently I was on the lookout for another picture by W. C. Miles....
called the Gospel Target for Soldiers and Volunteers. Eventually with the help of the
Museum of Army Chaplaincy at Amport House, Andover UK. I was able to obtain photos
of an original copy they have at the Museum.  The Curator - Mr David Blake has been
most helpful and a great help with research about the mysterious W. C. Miles. There
is very little information readily available, but gradually the information has been coming
together and it is fascinating! Shortly I should have have something more to share with
this intriguing subject. The Gospel Target is an extremely well designed and conceived
picture. Full of Bible verses and scenes which illustrate various themes in the life of a soldier.
 It just so happened it was Soldiers day in Brazil - 25th of August - What an opportunity for
the picture! But I had a lot of work to make the picture ready and translated into Portuguese!
- But we were able the following week to have a 2 metre high banner printed…The junior
school has been looking at the picture as part of it's devotionals and reflecting on Bible
verses and themes in the poster. ... it must be over 135 ago since the original picture was
made. It was originally created to help British soldiers but it can be for soldiers of all nations.

September the 7th marked Brazilian Independence day so we continued studying the picture
in our school devotionals. When we asked the children if they each wanted to have a poster -
virtually all  their hands went up! So we prayed in agreement to the Lord to provide the
means to make posters available for each child. We also pray we might be able to provide
the poster free of charge to children in other schools, we would like to visit with the Gospel
Target poster and also military personnel here. Please pray in agreement with us!

Project Criancas do Rei
Criancas do Rei continues despite the challenges here. Please pray - The children and
families we are helping are extremely needy.

“Sabado Legal” - Saturday Childrens church

Recently we had the best attendance for a Saturday morning - 84 children…..we also had
more volunteers thankfully.  Please pray - with the new children we need to provide snacks.

Prayer and Praise
Answers to prayer - we were able to purchase a new Fridge and Microwave - Praise the
Lord! Please continue to pray for Crianças do Rei - also for volunteers. (Answer to prayer -
A Christian lady from France stayed with us for some weeks during August which was a
great encouragement - also a big help with translating the Gospel Target and some pages
in French for my website featuring the Broad and the Narrow Way picture -   
Thank you Lucie! The English page on the website regularly has at least 2 - 6 visitors a day
from all over the world - and that's just one page! Although I don't know how many visitors I
am getting for the rest of the website (I need to set up counters)….but I do know it is being
visited and need to keep the site up to date.


Please continue to pray for safety and security - Brazil continues to face many challenging
times.   Recently the Museum of Brazil which has the biggest collection for all of Brazil's
history - Went up in flames. Also shortly afterwards one of the leading contenders to
become president Bolsonaro was stabbed in public while campaigning. He is recovering
in Hospital. While ex president Lula who served two terms in office is in prison - there
was talk of him  being released to run for president but it seems unlikely now.



Please continue to pray  - We give thanks to the Lord for the wonderful way our laptop is
still functioning well after two years!  Our printer (which we keep very busy but is having
problems printing black.) We still have a need for a new washing machine… Also
maintenance for the school structure. Recently high winds which thankfully have died
down a bit - probably a cousin of Hurricane Florence has been battering us. The
strongest winds I have known here.  All we can do is commit our ways unto the Lord
- He sees everything… including my emergency repairs holding the roof down!
