We celebrate Dorothy's 8th Birthday today!
Peter and Josi’s Newsletter July 2016
Dear Friends,
Greetings once again in Jesus Name!
Thank you to all of you who write
to us, pray and support us. We are
very grateful to you all. God bless
you. The other night I came across a
poem by Rosalind Goforth, from her book “Climbing” Rosalind and her husband,
Jonathan were missionaries to China. The Goforths were sent to pioneer the North Henan
Mission in 1888.
Call Back!
If you have gone a little way
ahead of me, call back- It will cheer my heart and help my feet along the stony
track; And if, perchance, Faith’s light is dim, because the oil is low, Your
call will guide my lagging course as wearily I go.
Call back, and tell me that He
went with you into the storm; Call back, and say He kept you when forest’s
roots were torn; That when the heavens thunder and the earthquake shook the
hill. He bore you up and held where the very air was still.
O friend, call back, and tell
me for I cannot see your face; They say it glows with triumph, and your feet
bound in the race; But there are mists between us and my spirit eyes are dim,
And I cannot see the glory, though I long for word of Him.
But if you’ll say He heard you
when your prayer was but a cry, And if you’ll say He saw you through the
night’s sin-darkened sky - If you have gone a little way ahead, O friend, call
back- It will cheer my heart and help my feet along the stony track.
I think its an
amazing poem, and I couldn’t help but be inspired to write some verses in my
own style – which you might notice is rather different. My apologies to Rosalind Goforth…..If she
reads this from heaven….she might have a chuckle……..
Call Back from Brazil
Those mists
between us…Yes it seems like many, many miles…But we give thanks to God for
you…that give us many smiles.
Your waiting
for our “Call back” And looking for
our hope. Wondering if we kept the faith and never ask the Pope (Well, I just couldn’t resist, it rhymed
so well!)
Through years
of ups and downs you prayed, upholding us in prayer. We’re in a battle as you
know which isn’t very fair.
The fallen all
around us show this isn’t a game of dice. And when you’re hit by friendly fire
it isn’t very nice.
But the Lord
took us to this battlefield….and trained us as we go. We heard the sound and
heard the roar, the enemy and the foe. We learned to see through eyes of faith.
and standing in the gap.
Looking up in
prayer to see its what the Lord Jesus asked. Standing firm we ask and pray, we
are standing here for Him.
We might look
foolish to the world. the strong think we are weak.. But that’s what cheers us up no
end, if God thinks we are meek
The world thrilled with its wisdom and full of sinful
pride. Forgot that God has chosen the foolish, weak, lowly and despised….
And so we are encouraged, God made this wonderful
choice. God created an amazing plan, which indeed we can rejoice.
We send our call back with the hope this poem will find you well. But if
by chance you’re full of moans and forgotten you’re quite dim…Read 1 Corinthians
1: 27-29 Cheer up and don’t give
in!
Peter N Millward
But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the
wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised
things – and the things that are not – to nullify the things that
are, so that no one may boast before him. 1
Corinthians 1: 27-29
Today is Dorothy’s Birthday 22/07/2016 – She is 8 yrs old. So
it’s a very special day. The drawing above Dorothy sketched as she
has been praying for a Yorkshire Terrier dog. Well, that’s a quite a challenge
as they are quite expensive here. But lets pray. The photo on the right is Dorothy having ballet lessons. We
enjoy Dorothy very much. She is a very sweet child…..Recently we had a
problem with the new Laptop – which had Windows 8.1 installed on it – It totally stopped, and I couldn’t get it
working – Anyway Josi and Dorothy prayed and a miracle occurred - some how
I managed to get it working again – Praise the Lord! It was a wonderfully big encouragement to Dorothy’s faith.
JOCUM PRAIA – FORTALEZA – 1ST DTS Discipleship
Training School
NEWS
We
have now completed our first DTS (Discipleship Training School) and our 5
students plus staff came back from outreach after serving various projects and
Churches in Ceara and Rio Grande do Norte. We were very encouraged to hear
their stories and how the Lord used them in Evangelism and blessing the
different churches they were with.
Escola
Crista Agua Vida has closed for the summer holidays and will start back in
August.
The
challenges of running a Christian School in a poor area continue – Yet this is
where the Lord calls us to bring His salt and light. Many times parents bring
children to us who are unable to integrate in other schools…..out of
desperation they come to us. One such
child was Carlos Augusto, 7 years who came at the start of this year. He had a bad time at other schools and
didn’t want to go …..when he arrived at our school. There began a long process
of helping him become accustomed to sitting in class and learning. Some days he had to go home or his Gran or
his mother would try to cajole him to stay…there were days he just didn’t want to stay in the
classroom..We prayed for him often as
talking wouldn’t resolve his difficulties.
And to our amazement…….He changed!
Like night turned to day. He
now looks forward going to school and has become a well adjusted child. Understandably his family are relieved. We
give thanks to God for answered prayer. There really were days we wondered what
we were dealing with, but Carlos Augusto appears fine.
We
continue praying and seeking sponsors for school books and school Agendas in
preparation for the next year. Parents start enrolling in September ….it will
certainly be a big help. We are very
grateful to UCB Brazil in partnering with us this year and helping to provide
school uniforms.
Josi with a group of Mothers and Children from the
Mangroves
Since
our last news – For along time we have been looking at how to respond to the
needs of the children of the Mangroves
- The poorest children live there. We have wanted to provide more help
to the children, rather than just a few.
The
problem is how to integrate the poorest children into our existing school
- Escola Crista Agua Viva. An older child, Erika was being sponsored
awhile ago – and stopped coming to school…..We thought she didn’t want to
study but it was for other reasons. We learned recently when Josi talked
to some parents from the Mangroves.
Erika stopped coming because she felt the difference between herself and
other children. She saw other children who are well looked after by their
parents…..and of course children compare themselves with each other. The
challenge is poor kids don’t integrate very well with kids who are better off.
So we came to the conclusion we need to do something radically different.
After prayer and discussion
we felt it right to create a new school to receive the poorer children in the
neighborhood – And we shall call it Crianças do Rei. (Children of the
King) It will be in a different location than Escola Crista Agua
Viva. We were starting to rent a property for YWAM but this will also be
the location of the new school. Although annexed to Escola Crista Agua
Viva...its just a short walk down the road. Escola Crianças do Rei
will be for children whose parents do not have conditions to pay…. Already we
have about 25 children who will be enrolling. But we need to raise sponsors for
them all. They will be integral – All day. The situation many
children live in conditions very difficult. Parents struggling to feed
them. One mother has trouble even feeding her own children breakfast. So
Crianças do Rei...we will have a different timetable. Children arriving at
school need to eat first For children
to be sponsored they must come from the neediest background.
One can understand why it’s
so difficult for the poorest to integrate...the children and parents have a
completely different set of challenges for their daily lives..So we hope we can
help.
You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears
in your bottle. You have recorded each
one in your book. Psalm 56:8
Things are
getting tight in Brazil thats for sure . .Inflation - just a carton of milk has risen by 1 Reais since last
month and now at 4,50 reais in one of the local mercantils. God knows
everything In all these challenges we are more than conquerors through Christ
Jesus.
One of the sketches made during YWAM/JOCUM EM FAMILIA 2015. Jim Stier is preaching from 1 Corinthians 1: 27-29 ......a wonderful encouragement to us all
YWAM - Discipling a Nation 365 days of the year
I think I must be going through the most productive period creatively in my life, the challenges and difficulties here are some how the fuel - the Lord is giving many pictures and ideas......So I am looking forward to see where all this is going. I will send a 2nd newsletter out which will share more about the pictures
One of the ideas I have been praying about is to make a picture or cartoon for each day of a year.………..That’s a big task but I am working on breaking up the project into 7 areas or Spheres. Family, business, religion, arts & entertainment, media, education, and government.
The concept of the 7 Mind Moulders or Spheres originated in 1975, and Loren Cunningham, the founder of Youth With a Mission, and Bill Bright, the founder of Campus Crusade, each received illumination from God concerning a method by which nations are discipled.
“It was August, 1975.My family and I were up in a little cabin in Colorado. And the Lord had given me that day a list of things I had never thought about before. He said "This is the way to reach America and nations for God. And {He said}, "You have to see them like classrooms or like places that were already there, and go into them with those who are already working in those areas." And I call them "mind-molders" or "spheres". I got the word "spheres" from II Corinthians 10 where Paul speaks in the New American Standard about the "spheres" he had been called into. And with these spheres there were seven of them, and I'll get to those in a moment. But it was a little later that day, the ranger came up, and he said, "There is a phone call for you back at the ranger's station." So I went back down, about 7 miles, and took the call. It was a mutual friend who said, "Bill Bright and Vonnette are in Colorado at the same time as you are. Would you and Darlene come over and meet with them? They would love to meet with you." So we flew over to Boulder on a private plane of a friend of ours. And as we came in and greeted each other, {we were friends for quite a while}, and I was reaching for my yellow paper that I had written on the day before. And he said, "Loren, I want to show you what God has shown me!" And it was virtually the same list that God had given me the day before. Three weeks later, my wife Darlene had seen Dr. Francis Shaffer on TV and he had the same list! And so I realized that this was for the body of Christ.” Loren Cunningham
There are seven spheres of influence or seven mind moulders of culture that must be influenced by the Word of God before a society can be transformed by the Kingdom of God. In Matthew 28: 1920 Jesus commissioned the church when He stated, "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost; teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen." The command to teach nations lays at the foundation for the 7 Spheres or Mind Moulders message. All spheres of life are under the sovereign ruler ship of God. The seven spheres are: family, business, religion, arts & entertainment, media, education, and government. Although there are many subcategories within each sphere, these seven serve to identify the areas of society's cultural mind moulders.
